Participants will be able to describe the principal biofuels markets and regulatory mandates globally, the main categories of biofuel feedstocks, the various types of biofuels and their price / quality characteristics.
MODULE 2
Biofuel’s manufacturing pathways
• Conventional vs Advanced (2nd generation)
• Biogas / biomethane technology & applications
• Biological pathways
• Thermochemical pathways
• What's hot? New Technologies & Feedstocks
Participants will have a robust understanding of the diverse manufacturing processes to produce both gaseous and liquid renewable fuels, and be able to compare / their main features.
MODULE 3
Focus on European Regulation (& Cyprus perspective)
• RED2 (Renewable Energy Directive) explained
• Implications for Cyprus
• Choices facing a Member State regulator
• Future regulations, Green Deal, RED3
This module will provide an in-depth look at the EU biofuels regulations, how they apply in Cyprus, what future trends and policies can be expected from EU, and the impact on transportation sector.
MODULE 4
Biofuels for Road Transport sector
• Key quality features (good & bad) for ethanol, FAME and HVO
• Compatibility - the manufacturers perspective
• Competition with other energies i.e. Electric Vehicles - pros & cons
• Higher blends vs drop-in fuels
Participants will understand the specific quality features and issues of various types of road biofuels like ethanol, biodiesel or HVO; the use of these in fossil fuels (gasoline and diesel) but also in specific high blends (eg B30, B100, E85, R100…), and the compatibility list from OEMs.
MODULE 5
Biofuels for Marine Sector
• Technical solutions for Marine Sector
• Quality aspects
• Regulatory aspects
Participants will gain an understanding of the opportunities and challenges of renewable fuels for Marine sector, the existing and planned regulations, and the various types of biofuels available, characterised by price and quality.
